EATucation upholds Te Tiriti o Waitangi and acknowledges the need to prioritise the needs of ākonga Māori and minoritised learners to account for their historic and ongoing marginalisation within the New Zealand education system.
To empower ākonga Māori, our program provides schools with additional te reo Māori and Mātauranga Māori activities and utilises Kaupapa Māori and Pasifika pedagogies. Our learning resources include regular use of te reo Māori, draw on the breadth and depth of Mātauranga Māori, and the principles and values of te ao Māori. EATucation ensures that Māori perspectives and knowledge are central to our methodology, fostering an environment where tamariki can connect with their cultural heritage and actively participate in their learning. Our focus on food literacy and environmental education promotes sustainable practices and supports the holistic well-being of ākonga Māori. EATucation respects Māori cultural values such as kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, and whakapapa by prioritising relational teaching strategies and games-based learning, emphasising plurality, community, and connectedness.
Through engagement with Māori communities and stakeholders, our robust monitoring and reporting frameworks allow us to regularly reflect on our progress and iterate our resources and delivery model.
Once EATucation is established, we will seek to co-design learning units with Kura Kaupapa Māori and schools with strong Pasifika communities. EATucation will fund this engagement and ensure the materials produced are defined and built by and for the communities they intend to serve.
